Kanchi Mehta's Art Show 'Rite of Passage' Begins at Artry Gallery, Fort Kochi

Artry Gallery, Fort Kochi Presents "Rite of Passage"
Curated by Kanchi Mehta

Open From 12 June - 12 July 2015

This exhibition, titled Rite of Passage includes 6 artists practicing in diverse media, whose works align with this concept, and in fact, compliment the implications of the term.

A rite of passage is a ceremony and marks the transition from one phase of life to another. It is an internal (as well as eternal) journey of evolution one must go through to pierce into a new role. This could be with reference to birth, beginnings, relationships, endings, and even death. This anthropological term and concept arose as a part of social obligations, when rituals were (and still are) performed when adolescents reached puberty, or when a king would be enthroned or when a woman would become a mother. However, this term marks a milestone at every step in our lives, whether it is trauma, re-location, revelation or love. This passage from one experience to another is enough to alter one’s perception of life as it was, into a re-coded transformation.

Artry Gallery. Kochi, has been promoted by a group of Dubai-based artists and art-enthusiasts from Kerala, The Artry aims to serve as a platform to showcase all forms of visual arts and as a hub for artists, art enthusiasts and other creative people across the region. "Artry is the coming together of Dubai-based Malayalees, either artists or ardent art lovers and by taking Artry to this side of the Arabian Sea, we are trying to build a bridge for cultures," said Vimala Narayanan, one of the promoters and directors of Dubai-based IAL group told Business Standard. "By not being a stand-alone art gallery, we promise to bring in regular international art shows to Kochi and at the same time taking Kerala's master and emerging artists to Dubai and to the world," she added.
